One multipath path missing after server reboot

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • After a system reboot, one of the sub paths to the SAN devices is missing.
    For example, in the following output, there are only 7 paths listed for LUN ID 4, while it should report total 8 paths:

    $ cat /proc/scsi/scsi |grep -i "Lun: 04"
    Host: scsi7 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 04
    Host: scsi8 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 04
    Host: scsi7 Channel: 00 Id: 01 Lun: 04
    Host: scsi8 Channel: 00 Id: 01 Lun: 04
    Host: scsi8 Channel: 00 Id: 02 Lun: 04
    Host: scsi8 Channel: 00 Id: 03 Lun: 04
    Host: scsi7 Channel: 00 Id: 02 Lun: 04

    $ cat /proc/scsi/scsi |grep -i "Lun: 04"|wc -l
    7

    SAN, switch ports, zoning have all been checked by network team and by storage vendor and they report no issues.

    Even the SCSI bus re-scan using /usr/bin/rescan-scsi-bus.sh and issue_lip did not help to discover the missing path.
