What are the lines in /proc/interrupts referring to when they show an Ethernet device with an additional number across multiple lines in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.6

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • The same ethernet device shows multiple times in /proc/interrupts
  • The /proc/interrupt file shows the same ethernet device spread across multiple lines.  This is independant of VLAN, bonding or bridging.

For example:

 # cat proc/interrupts | grep eth0
