Issue

  • Unable to start rsyslog on RHEL5. Getting error Shut down sysklogd before you run rsyslog
[root@rhel5 ~]# /etc/init.d/rsyslog start
Shut down sysklogd before you run rsyslog
[root@rhel5 ~]# service sysklogd status
sysklogd: unrecognized service
[root@rhel5 ~]# service sysklog status
sysklog: unrecognized service

[root@rhel5 ~]# rpm -qa | grep -i "rsyslog\|sysklog"
rsyslog-3.22.1-3.el5_5.1.x86_64                             
sysklogd-1.4.1-46.el5.x86_64
