Why statically assigned IPv6 address is lost from the system/interface ?

Issue

  • Statically assigned IPv6 address is lost from the system. Below are the only messages seen in the logs at that time
Nov  9 13:55:50 HOSTNAME cfexecd[4768]: cfengine:HOSTNAME: Unknown action in editing of file /etc/security/access-sssd.conf
Nov  9 13:56:18 HOSTNAME ntpd[1702]: Deleting interface #12 eth1, 2600:3402:1600:xxx:xxx:xxx:xxx:xxx#123, interface stats: received=0, sent=0, dropped=0, active_time=2594136 secs
  • The IPv6 addresses were restored by running service network restart.
  • Multiple system in the network got affected with the same issue.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
