Updates are available for system but unable to apply, yum does not list any packages to update.

Issue

  • Why we are not able to apply patches to the server even though Satellite and RHN shows it was successful. No messages are entered in /var/log/yum.log.

  • System still does not update from RHN or Satellite, however, the updates show as completed on RHN or satellite.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5,6
  • Red Hat Network (RHN)
    or
  • Red Hat Network (RHN) satellite
