Printers do not print double-sided, collate pages, print landscape, or print multiple copies in RHEL

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • I have printers and none of them are collating multiple copies. Where can I set this up as the default? None of the printers use a PPD so what can i do to resolve this.
  • The following command does not print landscape:

    lpr –o landscape -Pr10 test_file.txt

  • Printing multiple copies of a file using the lp -n option does not work against raw CUPS print queues. One job is submitted and only one copy prints regardless of the value given to -n. When I configure a printer with a PPD (PostScript Printer Definition), the option behaves as expected.

  • We have changed the print queue to raw and that cleared up our earlier printing issue. Now we need to set the paper size properly. I have tried changing the media to media=Custom.8.5x13in, then trying it with PageSize=8.5x13in, and it still only print in Letter/A4 format. I have to be able to change the paper size.
  • We are unable to print banner pages, even though we have defined a custom banner page properly.
  • While printing from RHEL server , we are unable to print on both sides . We need to enable the option for duplex printing. The directory /etc/cups/ppd is empty.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS)
