Why does KDE logout fail when a user is using csh ?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Why does KDE logout fail when a user is using tcsh ? The only way to terminate the desktop session is to use Ctrl+Alt-BckSpc to kill X. This is seen predominantly with LDAP accounts with homedir over NFS automounts.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • KDE
  • tcsh shell
