Unable to start rstatd, it throws an error message 'rpc.rstatd[27959]: unable to register (RSTATPROG, RSTATVERS_TIME, udp)'

Issue

  • While starting rstatd, it fails with following error.

    rpc.rstatd[27959]: unable to register (RSTATPROG, RSTATVERS_TIME, udp).
    
  • While trying to start rpcbind and rstatd, it shows following error messages in /var/log/daemon.log file.

    Apr 14 13:42:39 hostname rpcbind: cannot create socket for udp6
    Apr 14 13:42:39 hostname rpcbind: cannot create socket for tcp6
    Apr 14 13:43:27 hostname rpc.rstatd[32069]: unable to register (RSTATPROG, 
    RSTATVERS_TIME, udp).
    
  • However, rpcinfo -p gives following output.

    # rpcinfo -p
        program vers proto   port  service
         100000    4   tcp    111  portmapper
         100000    3   tcp    111  portmapper
         100000    2   tcp    111  portmapper
         100000    4   udp    111  portmapper
         100000    3   udp    111  portmapper
         100000    2   udp    111  portmapper
