Broadcom firmware 5.0.13 update causes fw sync timeout on RHEL5
Environment
-
Red Hat Enterprise Linux(RHEL) 5.
-
Broadcom Network Card.
Issue
-
After upgrading Broadcom
BCM5708Sfirmware to version5.0.13 bc 5.0.4the network interface fails to go online. -
Following errors are seen in
/var/log/messagesgenerated bybnx2drivers while activating the NIC after upgrade:
"bnx2: fw sync timeout, reset code = 1020002"
Resolution
- NIC driver
bnx2throwsfw sync timeout, reset code = 1020002which meansbnx2driver and the NIC's firmware have gotten out of sync and a reset is attempted/required to hopefully bring them back to a known working state. - It seems firmware/hardware is the cause of this error.
- It is recommended to obtain a current NIC firmware from the hardware vendor and update to the latest available firmware.
- If the issue persists with current/re-flashed firmware, the Hardware vendor may need to be engaged to perform a diagnostic on the physical NIC itself.
Root Cause
- This appears to be a hardware related issue.
