Windows 7 clients randomly fail to connect to Red Hat Storage 2.1 over samba

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • After upgrading from RHS 2.0 to RHS 2.1, Windows 7 clients sometimes are denied access to a samba share with the following error:
Windows cannot access \\path\share
You do not have permission to access \\path\share. Contact your network administrator to request access
  • If the user clicks ok and simply tries again (on the same server), the connection is allowed.
  • For user authentication winbind is used.

Environment

  • Red Hat Storage Server 2.1
  • Windows 7 and XP clients
  • glusterfs-fuse-3.4.0.33rhs-1.el6rhs.x86_64
  • Samba configuration in the RHS 2.0 style configuration using gluster-fuse instead of samba-glusterfs
  • Authentication based on group ID
