Oracle reports ORA-04030 (out of memory) errors when resource intensive PL/SQL procedures are executed

Issue

  • ORA-04030 error messages are being recorded in trace files as an Oracle custom application is failing with ENOMEM errors when attempting to map memory using mmap(2) calls, even while system has:
    • free memory available;
    • little or no swap usage;
    • no system session limits set on memory.
