RHEL 7.6 - During a cable pull over test with Qlogic HBA and host connected to the storage in point-to-point topology, not all I/O to scsi devices would complete

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • During a cable pull over test with Qlogic HBA and host connected to the storage in point-to-point topology, not all I/O to scsi devices would complete
  • I/O to scsi devices through a qla2xxx HBA can become stuck after link loss and not fail over in point-to-point configuration
  • During a multipath test, it was discovered that not all I/O would fail over after pulling one of two fibre channel cables connecting qla2xxx HBAs to storage. Some I/Os would become stuck in the request queues of the unreachable scsi device paths.

If this occurs with switch connected in between the host and the storage, update to RHEL 7.7 (kernel-3.10.0-1062) kernel or to later kernels.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.6
  • FC Qlogic HBA in a host connected to storage in point-to-point configuration
