On a system without graphical interface access, is there a way to update the settings on '/proc/sys/dev/parport/parport0', when a printer connected to the parallel port is disconnected, and another printer is connected in its place?

The requirement is to detect the parallel printer settings dynamically from '/proc/sys/dev/parport/parport0', when a printer connected to the parallel port is disconnected, and another printer is connected in its place. The graphical interface is not accessible on the system.
