SSSD PAM responder service 'sssd-pam.service' fails to start

Issue

  • Intents to run SSSD as non-root user 1
  • Configured SSSD PAM Service responder to be a socket activated service 2
    • services=pam parameter is removed from sssd.conf
    • Socket units are enabled. i.e. systemctl enable sssd-pam.socket sssd-pam-priv.socket
  • Attempted to authenticate remote user
  • Socket activated service sssd-pam.service failed to start with error:
    sssd-pam.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=2/INVALIDARGUMENT
