rpc.quotad fails with Too many autofs mountpoints

Issue

  • After starting nfs + rpcbind to serve NFS filsystems, the rpc.quotad daemon fails with that error message in /var/log/messages:
rpc.quotad fails with Too many autofs mountpoints. Please contact <jack@suse.cz>

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
    • seen on quota-3.17-18.el6
  • nfs server with rpc.rquotad running, and more than 64 autofs mount points
  # < /proc/mounts grep -c autofs 
  65
