How to edit the core pattern file or change the dump location in an Openshift Container

Issue

When attempting to edit the default core pattern file name or dump location from within a container, the following is observed.

bash-4.2$ echo "/tmp/cores/core.%p" > /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
'bash: /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern: Read-only file system'

bash-4.2$ sysctl kernel.core_pattern=/tmp/mycore
'sysctl: setting key "kernel.core_pattern": Read-only file system'
