Special (accented) characters in file are not displayed correctly

Issue

  • We have mounted CIFS share from Windows system
  • Accented characters in this file are not displayed properly in Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • For Example : Word DEMANDé in the file is displayed as DEMAND<82> while opened using vi editor.
  • RHEL system is being accessed over ssh using putty on Windows.
