Needing updated TG3 drivers for compatibility with the latest HP DL380 hardware

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • We've been experiencing Ethernet issues with RHEL 6.3 and 6.4 on our HP DL380G8 servers, using the TG3 driver with Broadcom 5719 NICs.

  • We've found that some newer versions of the hardware (listing firmware version "v1.31 NCSI v 1.1.15.0") are unable to correctly detect link speed and connection status. NICs with the issue consistently report links as up and running at Gigabit, even when no switch is connected. Older hardware versions (reporting firmware version "v1.24 NCSI v1.0.60.0") do not seem to have this problem.

  • For RHEL 6.3, we've been able to procure an updated TG3 driver from HP and have verified that it resolves the issue. However, we are unable to build the driver for RHEL 6.4 - the compilation fails due to an API function prototype change. We with to move to the later RHEL version, but we need a solution to this issue.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4
  • tg3 NIC Driver
