Why are switch ports becoming disabled after rebooting a RHEL host when using bonding mode 4 (LACP)?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • After rebooting a RHEL server configured to use LACP (bonding mode 4) the switch ports the server is connected to become disabled.
  • Disabling the affected switch port while its status is ERR_DISABLE and enabling it back again results in link recovery in the RHEL server.
  • The switch shows the following error message in its logs:
Aug 29 08:42:48 switch-hostname 10571: Aug 29 08:42:46.536: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: pagp-flap error detected on Gi3/0/22, putting Gi3/0/22 in err-disable state (switch-hostname-3)

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Bonding mode 4 (LACP).
  • Cisco switches.
