Yum-plugin-security not listing java-1.7.0-openjdk security updates on Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6

Issue

  • The command "yum -q updateinfo list all" does not list any of the java-1.7.0-openjdk errata on my system.

Resolution

Install the java-1.7.0-openjdk package.

# yum install java-1.7.0-openjdk

you will be able to list the security erratas for java-1.7.0-openjdk with

# yum updateinfo security java-1.7.0-openjdk

Root Cause

yum updateinfo list available will only list advisories that pertain to the system, in other words, advisories of errata available for packages that are installed on the system. On the machine having the problem, no Java packages were installed, so no advisories will be listed.
