Can Satellite automatically re-allocate Red Hat VDC Subscriptions?

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

During a hardware refresh, the number of hypervisor hosts that Red Hat Satellite Server is able to see, will typically increase and as the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) VM's are migrated to new hosts, the associated subscriptions are not being re-allocated to the new hosts when the old ones are evacuated.

There are multiple hypervisor hosts (KVM, HyperV, or VMware ESXi) that are consuming Red Hat Virtual Data Center (VDC) subscriptions, but the hypervisor hosts do not contain any Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) guests, leading to a shortage of VDC subscriptions within your environment.

Environment

  • Red Hat Satellite 6
  • Virtualization environments that are utilizing either KVM, HyperV, or VMware ESXi hypervisors.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) virtual guests (a.k.a. Virtual Content Hosts or RHEL VM's )
