TCPWqueueTooBig mib increasing in netstat -s after kernel update

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • NFS became unresponsive and processes that use NFS got stuck on system call to allocate some space on NFS volume
  • Slow TCP traffic and lots of retransmissions.
  • This can also happen for non-NFS TCP traffic.
  • The TCPWqueueTooBig counter is increasing in netstat -s output over time:

    # netstat -s|grep TCPWqueueTooBig
    TCPWqueueTooBig: 780

    # netstat -s|grep TCPWqueueTooBig
    TCPWqueueTooBig: 2107

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
    • kernels updates that contain CVE-2019-11478
