Why 'Subscription-Manager-GUI' gives 'Unable to connect to server' error while trying to open 'Preferences' window ?

Issue

  1. Not able to open 'Preferences' window in 'Subscription-Manager-GUI' after registering the system. It gives Unable to connect to server error

  2. yum check-update fails with the following error :-

# yum check-update
Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-packagekit, subscription-manager
timed out
[Errno 12] Timeout on URL (28, 'connect() timed out!')
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: rhel-6-server-cf-tools-1-rpms. Please verify its path and try again

Environment

  • Red Hat enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.7+
  • Red Hat Subscription Management (RHSM)
