MQ 7 with DB2 databaset available memory decreasing over time for unknown reasons
Issue
-
We have 6 servers that over a period of time are losing available memory until, once real memory is depleted, begin utilizing available swap space. We are unable to identify why this memory depletion is occurring. Each time the real memory becomes exhausted the server has either been rebooted to replenish available memory and/or the real memory capacity increased on the server and then the server was rebooted. All 6 servers started with 4 GB. As this issue was encountered, all 6 servers had the memory increased to 8 GB. This provided some short term relief but once again the available memory started to get consistently lower over time. To address this we have periodically cycled the servers which returns some available memory but with each server reboot the amount of available memory returned gets lower. At the last occurrence when swap space started to be used, 2 of the affected servers were shutdown and the real memory was increased from 8 GB to 12 GB. However, even with 12 GB memory, it will probably just be a matter of time until available memory is eventually exhausted.
