The nrpe.service fails with 'cannot write to pidfile '/var/run/nrpe/nrpe.pid'

Issue

  • After fresh installation of nrpe packages service fails with error in /var/log/messages file like below :

    May 23 04:36:12 node1 nrpe[28706]: Starting up daemon
May 23 04:36:12 node1 nrpe[28706]: Cannot write to pidfile   '/var/run/nrpe/nrpe.pid' - check your privileges.
