Command 'lvremove' fails with error: "Can Not Remove Open Logical Volume"

Issue

  • When attempting to remove a logical volume the removal fails with message: "Can Not Remove Open Logical Volume"
  • While removing one of the mount point , we got the below error:
[root@localhost ~]# lvremove /dev/mapper/rootvg-test
  Can't remove open logical volume "test"
[root@localhost ~]# rmdir /test
rmdir: /test: Device or resource busy

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
