Adding RHN Satellite or Proxy channel to system fails with 'Satellite or Proxy channel can not be subscribed'

Issue

  • Can not add rhn-satellite channel to a self-subscribed Satellite server.
  • spacewalk-channel fails with "Error Class Code: 73"
  • The rhn-channel command fails with below error,
# rhn-channel --add -c redhat-rhn-proxy-5.6-server-x86_64-6 
Username: cferman
Password: 
Error communicating with server. The message was:

Error Class Code: 73
Error Class Info: Satellite or Proxy channel can not be subscribed.
