Issue

  • dmesg shows high CPUs than physically available.
  • For example, we can see allowing 192 CPUs from the following message.
[    0.000000] smpboot: Allowing 192 CPUs, 176 hotplug CPUs
  • However, the server has 16 CPUs from lscpu
# lscpu | grep "CPU(s)"
CPU(s):                16
On-line CPU(s) list:   0-15
NUMA node0 CPU(s):     0-15

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • Kernel versions below 3.10.0-1062.el7
