Issue

  • Applications performing IO on HP RAID disks got hung.
    At the time of hang, following errors were logged on console:

    sd 0:1:0:8: [sdi] tag#34 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE
    sd 0:1:0:8: [sdi] tag#34 Sense Key : Aborted Command [current] 
    sd 0:1:0:8: [sdi] tag#34 Add. Sense: Timeout on logical unit
    sd 0:1:0:8: [sdi] tag#34 CDB: Read(10) 28 00 30 b6 6e 58 00 00 40 00
    blk_update_request: I/O error, dev sdi, sector 817262168
    

    It may also show the following alone or in addition to the above at the time of the hang:

    hpsa 0000:02:00.0:     logical_reset scsi 0:1:0:1: Direct-Access     HP       LOGICAL VOLUME   RAID-0 SSDSmartPathCap+ En+ Exp=1 qd=56

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • HP Proliant dl380 Gen 8/9 Servers
  • HP P440ar, P440 controllerx (hpsa driver)
    • RAID logical volumes configured using SSD disks
