Why do I see "ICMPv6 NA: someone advertises our address on bondX" messages for ipv6 configured over bonded device in RHEL4?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • I have a bond device configured in mode 1 (active backup) with an IPV6 assigned to it.

  • I see following messages in the logs:

Oct 1 01:07:41 localhost kernel: printk: 1 messages suppressed.
Oct 1 01:07:41 localhost kernel: ICMPv6 NA: someone advertises our address on bondX!
Oct 1 01:07:49 localhost kernel: ICMPv6 NA: someone advertises our address on bondX!
Oct 1 01:07:51 localhost kernel: printk: 1 messages suppressed.
Oct 1 01:07:51 localhost kernel: ICMPv6 NA: someone advertises our address on bondX!
Oct 1 01:07:59 localhost kernel: ICMPv6 NA: someone advertises our address on bondX!
Oct 1 01:08:01 localhost kernel: printk: 1 messages suppressed.
Oct 1 01:08:01 localhost kernel: ICMPv6 NA: someone advertises our address on bondX!
  • Why are these messages seen? The bond seems to be working properly.
