Virtual machine crashed while migrating to a new host

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • The live migrate procedure fails.

    # virsh migrate test-vm qemu+ssh://test-destination-host/system
    
  • The VM showed up temporary on the destination server but disappeared.

  • During the migration the VM crashed and it looks like qemu-kvm crashed while starting the VM.
  • The libvirt/qemu log file for the VM that crashed. Lines below show when the crash occurred.

    2020-02-17 12:33:27.111+0000: Domain id=1 is tainted: host-cpu char device redirected to /dev/pts/1 (label charserial0) block I/O error in device 'drive-virtio-disk0': File too large (27)
    2020-02-17 12:33:42.164+0000: shutting down, reason=crashed
