RHEL 5.9 system shows 'VMBUS: HvInit() ERROR! Unknown guest id' error message while booting up the system

Issue

  • We have RHEL 5.9 virtual machine hosted in Microsoft Hyper-V 2012. The system was failing to boot with kernel panic error messages noted in knowledge base solution 480873 due to which the initrd image was rebuild with -preload option as per the steps in above solution.
  • After rebuilding the initrd image, system is able to boot successfully but following error messages are observed on the console while booting up the system:

    Memory for crash kernel (0x0 to 0x0) not within permissible range
    WARNING calibrate_APIC_clock: the APIC timer calibrating may be wrong.
