Why RHEL 6.x crond requires non-root users to have a home directory while RHEL 5.x does not?

Issue

  • Cron jobs in RHEL 6.x will fail to run if the executer is non-root user and the user doesn't have a home directory.
  • Behaviour is different for non root users between RHEL 5.x and RHEL 6.x.
