Failover failure with Netapp in ALUA mode

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • There was a migration on a Netapp filer where in the activities were included some failover and failback tests, but when we performed those activities the servers involved were not able to support the failover.
  • After updating the kernel for ALUA, failover took too long for our cluster, causing a reboot to be forced.
  • Unable to access LUNs/filesystem after storage failover and giveback from NetApp ONTAP

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • ALUA storage
  • device-mapper-multipath
