Mounting a LogicalVolume shows generic mount error

Issue

  • When attempting to mount a newly made logical volume the following error is seen:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/VolGroup03/oracledata3,
       missing codepage or other error
       In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail  or so

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
