Issue

  • systemctl fails to reload systemd with the following error message

    # systemctl daemon-reload
    Failed to reload daemon: No buffer space available
    
  • systemctl enables or disables a service then fails with the following error message

    # systemctl disable <servicename>
    Removed /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/<servicename>.service.
    Failed to reload daemon: No buffer space available
    

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 and later
    • systemd
    • systems with many devices (>= 20000)
