On RHEL5 machine, `faillog -r` command is giving segmentation fault.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, faillog is not working as expected.
  • Whenever user tried with wrong password, the information not showing in faillog command and it shows only zero with segmentation fault as follows.
[root@example ~]# faillog
Login       Failures Maximum Latest                   On
testuser         0        0   04/28/11 04:47:02 +1000  tty1
Segmentation fault

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • shadow-utils-4.0.17-14.el5-x86_64
