Yum update throws "Error communicating with server" timed out

Issue

  • Ran a yum update, and after the clean up packages, there is a timeout. Control break the process, and reboot the server. Afterwards, the new kernel version has taken affect, however, yum commands throw the following error:
[root@localhost]# yum check-update
Loaded plugins: enabled_repos_upload,
              : package_upload, product-id,
              : rhnplugin, search-disabled-repos,
              : subscription-manager
There was an error communicating with RHN.
Red Hat Satellite or RHN Classic support will be disabled.
Error communicating with server. The message was:
timed out
Uploading Enabled Repositories Report
Loaded plugins: product-id, rhnplugin, subscription-manager
There was an error communicating with RHN.
Red Hat Satellite or RHN Classic support will be disabled.
Error communicating with server. The message was:
timed out
Unable to upload Enabled Repositories Report
