Why are Eclipse packages not available in the Developer toolset 2.0 for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5?
Environment
Red Hat Developer Toolset 2.0
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5
Issue
- Eclipse packages are required for developing, in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 using the Developer Toolset.
- Eclipse packages are not available in the Developer toolset 2.0 for RHEL5.
Resolution
-
Eclipse is not included in further Developer Toolset Releases for RHEL 5. Developer Toolset 2.0 is the last major release for RHEL5 as RHEL5 is in production phase 2 and will move to production phase 3 before the next major DTS release. Although there are no plans to add a major package like Eclipse to the RHEL 5 DTS, refer BugZilla #1009780 which addresses this.
-
It is recommended to upgrade the system to RHEL-6 as it has the updated Eclipse packages. The RHEL 6 Developer Toolset 2 has Eclipse version 4.3.0-2.el6.
-
The Red Hat Developer Toolset version of Eclipse is only available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 on 32-bit and 64-bit Intel and AMD architectures.
-
This version fully supports C, C++, and Java development, but does not provide support for the Fortran programming language.
