Upstart init script errors are misleading because they refer to Ubuntu

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

When certain init script related operations on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 fail to execute, they display confusing or misleading errors that refer to Ubuntu.

For example:

initctl: Unable to connect to Upstart: Failed to connect to socket /com/ubuntu/upstart: Connection refused

The initctl utility contains many references, such as:

# strings -a /sbin/initctl |grep -i ubuntu
com.ubuntu.Upstart
/com/ubuntu/Upstart
com.ubuntu.Upstart0_6.Error.UnknownInstance
unix:abstract=/com/ubuntu/upstart
com.ubuntu.Upstart.c
com.ubuntu.Upstart0_6
upstart_com_ubuntu_Upstart0_6_JobRemoved_signal
upstart_com_ubuntu_Upstart0_6_JobAdded_signal
...
