Rapidly changing files under /proc/net/cdp are causing sosreport to fill up the file system in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6

Issue

  • When running sosreport, we ran out of disk space even when redirecting to a partition with 50GB available disk space using the --tmp-dir option.
[root@xxxx]# find xxxxx-2013082807111377688264 -size +1M -exec ls -lh {} \;
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 33G Aug 28 07:23 xxxxx-2013082807111377688264/proc/net/cdp/cache_dump_mib
  • The 100 line content of /proc/net/cdp/cache_dump_mib is being repeatedly copied into xxxxx-2013082807111377688264/proc/net/cdp/cache_dump_mib.
