system hangs with a lot of processes in D-state
Issue
- Systems with real-time kernel show the following behaviour:
- it is possible to login, /proc/loadavg does increase continuously
- w does hang immediately
- ps does show a bunch of processes and hangs most of them in D-state
- The only way to recover is a hard reset.
- System shows kernel-threads (e.g.
flushandjbd2) in D-state.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6
- MRG-RT kernel
