What "resets" the automounter timeout?
Issue
- What are the conditions by which the kernel will "reset" the automount timeout for a given mount?
- For example, if I run a cronjob that does stat() on an automounted dir every 5 minutes (but there are no open files in it) and the autofs timeout is 15 minutes, will the automounter go ahead and unmount the dir? Or will the persistent stat() calls keep resetting the timer such that it'll never hit that 15 minutes of inactivity?
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.7 or below
- automount / autofs
