Why Cluster VIP address fails to get activated with " some other host already uses address" error in RHEL6?

Issue

  • While trying to setup a new cluster, we are unable bring up the Virtual ip resources which causes the cluster service to fail with following error:
clusvcadm -e test_service_vip
Local machine trying to enable service:test_service_vip...Could not connect to resource group manager
  • We see following error for the VIP address used:
hostname1 /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-eth: Error, some other host already uses address 1.1.1.1.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux(RHEL) 6.4.
  • Red Hat cluster suite.
