system-config-kdump displays bogus settings.

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • system-config-kdump

Issue

  • The settings offered in the system-config-kdump dialog are bogus. system-config-kdump does not parse /etc/kdump.conf correctly. It does not offer a sensible selection for "Partition" ("file:///(None)" is the only available option).
  • system-config-kdump falsely warns the user that the system needs to be rebooted for the changes to take effect. This is only true if kdump was disabled before the tool was called (and no kdump memory reserved).
  • When Apply is clicked, system-config-kdump runs mkdumprd and displays "Error handling kdump services", although "service kdump status" tells me "kdump is operational".
  • 'Apply' button doesn't work

Resolution

Upgrade to system-config-kdump-2.0.5-11.el6 released with errata RHBA-2012-0824
