Issue

While transferring files to another Linux OS on the same subnet using ftp we get approx. 3Mbytes/s xfer rate. However when I do a 'cat <filename> | ssh <host> ‘cat > outputfile’ I get much better throughput (approx. 10Mbytes/s). We’ve done some testing using nc which shows that we get 80+mBits/s which works out to about 10Mbytes/s.
