Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • After updating to the latest "kvm" package (kvm-83-224), loading kvm module fails with the below error message.

    # modprobe kvm-intel

FATAL: Error inserting kvm_intel (/lib/modules/2.6.18-194.el5/weak-updates/kmod-kvm/kvm-intel.ko):Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

  • Checking dmesg shows a lot of "Unknown symbol" error messages.

    kvm_intel: Unknown symbol kvm_xxx_xxx

  • Virtualization is enabled in BIOS of the host.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5 64bit
  • kvm-83-224
