Issue

  • openldap startup script ignores ulimit settings in RHEL5

  • openldap's ldap startup script ignores ulimit settings from /etc/security/limits.conf because it is started by root with something like this:

exec /usr/sbin/slapd -h "ldap:///" -u ldap
  • Getting following message on Server:
Oct  1 22:54:02 hostname slapd[26562]: warning: cannot open /etc/hosts.allow: Too many open files

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Update 4 and Older
  • Package: openldap-servers < 2.3.43-12
