Why do I see 'exe' as the process name in kernel panic backtraces?
Issue
- When investigating kernel backtraces generated within the
kdump
environment, the running process is unclear because it shows up asexe
which is not an expected process name. -
For example:
exe[15806]: segfault at ffffffffc0010062 rip 000000000052fc14 rsp 00007fff4fc4d5a8 error 6 ----------- [cut here ] --------- [please bite here ] --------- Kernel BUG at mm/memory.c:428 invalid opcode: 0000 [1] SMP last sysfs file: /block/sdb/range CPU 0 Modules linked in: nfs nfs_acl fscache lockd sunrpc e1000e ext3 jbd usb_storage ata_piix libata megaraid_sas sd_mod scsi_mod uhci_hcd ohci_hcd ehci_hcd Pid: 15806, comm: exe Not tainted 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5 #1 <...> Process exe (pid: 15806, threadinfo ffff810006ca4000, task ffff810008ff6860) <...>
