Why do I see 'exe' as the process name in kernel panic backtraces?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When investigating kernel backtraces generated within the kdump environment, the running process is unclear because it shows up as exe which is not an expected process name.
  • For example:

    exe[15806]: segfault at ffffffffc0010062 rip 000000000052fc14 rsp 00007fff4fc4d5a8 error 6
