Why do I receive 'reservation conflict' error on tape drive?

Issue

  • Tivoli Storage Manager software is unable to access the tape devices and following reservation conflict error messages are getting logged in /var/log/messages file:

    Aug  8 15:27:48 serverName kernel: lin_tape 1:0:4:0: reservation conflict
Aug  8 15:27:48 serverName kernel: lin_tape: pr-in error while logging reserve holder
Aug  8 15:27:48 serverName kernel: lin_tape 1:0:4:0: reservation conflict
